Simpsons Rom

Any advise on why 'The Simpsons' won't run in any emulator ?
Rom size seems very small for the recommended ROM ('simpsn2p' 245kb).
I've put it in all the Rom folders, it shows up in the list in some of them, but never loads.

I've tried various other versions ('simpsons' 2.36mb - whiich I think it 4 player), but they won't even show in the list.

Every other game has worked well, but this is one of about 10 I'd love to make sure are working.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Well just answered my own question in my continued learning about the weird world of MAME.

Had to have both above mentioned ROMs in one folder.

I stuck both in all of the emulators and it works in at least one !

So now I’m not sure if that’s what’s referred to as a parent ROM ?

How many other ROMs have this ??

Am I infact having a conversation with myself ???

Indeed you need the 4 player version as well as the 2 player version for the 2 player version to work. It's exactly as you suspect, the 4 player version is the parent rom. For most things you won't need to worry about parent roms, you would probably use the parent rom so won't have to think about it, some things like 2 player versions of 4 player games or something like Pacman where the original game is Puckman are basically exceptions.

The reason the 4 player version doesn't show in the menu is it is being skipped by the rom scanning script so as the 2 player version can be used without having 2 entrys in the gamelist. You could make the 4 player version show up if desired by editing the rom scan script (/home/pi/.attract/noPornRoms.sh) to remove it from the ignore array.

Simpsons should run great in AdvMAME.
